The fishing was very different to what I'd experienced on the bigger Chauvery River in the south of India, with spinning with small Mepps spinners being the main method of attack, rather than the balls of ragi paste which I was used to fishing.
I was lucky enough to catch a fish of 18 lb plus three others between 7 and 9 lb, but I lost a really good fish after it cut my line. I'll definitely be returning for another go next year to try and hook one of the real monsters that live in the Ramganga River.
This sort of fishing is very hard work - walking up mountains with temperatures into the 30s and sleeping in a tent - but it is all worthwhile when you hook one.
